Youth Showcase Awards - Dorking Halls - Friday February 6th

I received an invitation to attend, and nominate for, the Youth Showcase Awards Ceremony 2009 at Dorking Halls. I called the organiser and told them about "Pandemonium" and they were so excited by the idea of us that we were invited to play. Due to the difficulty of getting the pans on and off the stage we were situated in the bay window of the cafe which was far more relaxed for the group.

Unfortunately, due to the freak weather conditions, earlier in the week, the snow prevented us from rehearsing, but the children were brilliant as always and very well received.

As I was unable to choose one child from the group to receive an award, after all they are all so good and I think it would have been unfair to pick one, I decided to give them all an award of their own to keep.

"Just to thank you for your performance at the Showcase. The kids were amazing and everyone loved them..." Event Organiser

Private Party - Farnham - Saturday February 21st

Despite my protestations that the groups would not be ready for this gig, and then 2 of them were not available, the organiser was so keen to have us play for his wife that I relented and a mix of "Pandemonium" and "Pantastic Players" performed together.

After a lot of hard work from us all, although a special mention should go to Michael for learning 4 new parts in one evening (!!) we played a good repertoire of songs including all the favourites like "Yellow Bird", "Jamaica Farewell" and "Islands in the Sun".

Nearly all of the children at the party wanted to have a go and quite a few of the adults too, so we had at least half a dozen versions of "In the Jungle" !!

The inflatable palm trees, sunshine and bananas were put to good use and there was also a wonderful back drop of the sea.

Mole Valley Housing Association Resident's Day - Saturday April 4th

The children played for an hour during the lunch break of the Mole Valley Housing Accociation Resident's Day. They were extremely well received and many of the speakers who held important posts in Mole Valley came and congratulated me on the high standard of the band. Many business cards were taken and enquiries were made with a view to hiring the band in the future. It was the first time they had played "Mi Compadre Juan" and they did brilliantly. A couple of the stalls gave them some of their freebies like frisbees, pens, yo-yos and bags which they loved.

Red Cross Collection Day - Saturday May 2nd

The Red Cross Emblem is a special protective sign

This was a complete contrast to the collection day 2 years ago. The sun was shining and the High Street was very busy because it was a special May Day in Guildford. There were Morris Dancers of all kinds in the Castle Grounds who paraded down the High Street just as we had finished playing and we were given our own private historical guide to the different groups and the significance of the various characters. We started playing under the Guildhall, but due to the hot sun distorting the Bass pans we moved into the shade over the road in front of the Tunsgate. Anne and I played with "Pandemonium" who were very well received by the passers-by. Many people stopped to chat and ask about the group and the time flew by. We also helped by holding our own collection buckets. "So far the totals for the whole week across Surrey are 18.800, but there is still some to come in. In the Town Centre collection they raised a total of 1200. The children and the two collectors who were stood near to them raised a total of 300. FANTASTIC !"

Cake and Plant Sale, Howard of Effingham School - Saturday May 16th

This was the first gig that the group ever performed at 2 years ago and they were invited back to play again this year. They joined the children from The Howard who also played their songs. They played all their songs including a debut of their 2 new ones "Anna" and "Fun Fun Fun" which were all very well received and appreciated by the stall holders and customers alike.

(I am currently trying to edit the video taken on the day so hopefully will have some new footage soon.)
